Departing from London on Saturday the 25th September 2021, we travel towards Wales with a stop in the picturesque Cotswolds town of Hay-on-Wye. From there we will spend the next five days exploring UNESCO sites, castles, national parks, coastal villages and beautiful beaches around Wales.

DAY 1 – 25 September 2021

LONDON – COTSWOLDS – ABERYSTWYTH

You’re in for a grand time on this adventure through the ‘Land of Song’. Leaving the cosmopolitan streets of London we journey through the picturesque Cotswolds, stopping in Hay-on-Wye. Enjoy an orientation tour and discover why the town is often described as “the town of books”. The route then leads to the beautiful Elan Valley and up into the Cambrian Mountains. From there, it’s an hour or so to the beautiful seaside town and cultural centre of Aberystwyth, where we spend the next two nights. Enjoy a Welcome Reception this evening to get to know your fellow travellers.

DAY 2 – 26 September 2021

HARLECH & GWRYCH – CASTLES EXCURSION

Our first stop today is a visit to Harlech Castle. Built by King Edward I during his conquest of Wales nearly 800 years ago, this mighty fortress still stands overlooking the peaks of Snowdonia and the sea. Next is a stop in the beautiful village of Beddgelert where during an orientation tour we see the grave of ‘Gelert’, the legendary dog. Later, history comes to live with a visit to Gwrych Castle. Discover it’s spectacular journey from its haunted past to the UK home of the TV series ‘I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here’. After a day of myths and legends we return to our hotel in evening.

DAY 3 – 27 September 2021

FOLLOW IN THE STEPS OF DYLAN THOMAS

Leaving Aberystwyth, we walk in the footsteps of the famous Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas. We travel around the coast of Cardigan Bay through the quaint town of Aberaeron, and to New Quay. This town is one of the most picturesque and interesting little towns in Britain with its sandy harbour and whitewashed houses. Next we travel inland to explore the Dinefwr Estate and view its ruined castle before heading for Wales’s south coast to visit Laugharne, where Dylan Thomas lived for the last few years of his life and wrote the famous play “Under Milk Wood”. From here, it’s a short distance to Swansea, the town where Thomas was born in 1914 and our home for the next two nights.

DAY 4 – 28 September 2021

PEMBROKESHIRE COAST NATIONAL PARK EXCURSION

After a relaxed start, we commence our last full day in Wales dedicated to exploring the extreme south-west. We will see some of Britain’s most gorgeous coastlines at the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. This region is stunning and was the birthplace of both the patron saint of Wales, and the Twdyr (anglicised to Tudor) royal dynasty. Next we travel to the the county town of Pembroke, where you can enter the thick medieval walls of the castle and enjoy free time for lunch. From here we journey to the harbour town of Tenby. Known for its 13thcentury town walls and its stretches of sandy shoreline, this is most iconic seaside town in Wales. Later, return to Swansea and spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure.

DAY 5 – 29 September 2021

SWANSEA – LONDON

Leaving Swansea in the morning, we journey to St Fagans for a visit to the outdoor National Museum of History followed by a stop at the Roman fortress at Caerleon. We return to London this afternoon and bid a fond farewell to our Travel Director and newfound friends at the end of a wonderful holiday.
